In  2014 Canadian Pacific Railways decided to remove their rail lines in the Old Strathcona area of Edmonton. This gave an opportunity for stakeholders in the area to imagine a significant linear park that from Saskatchewan Drive on the north to just south of Whyte Avenue. The park incorporates different areas for different activities, for example, there is an Art Park component, a Music area, a Central Plaza with a Meetaing Area, a Market Square, dedicated event space and several smaller intimate spaces.
