This project presented several major challenges in the initial design phase, the foremost being the elevation change of approximately 10m on a very narrow pan-handle lot between Hedgestone Way and Bear Mountain Parkway in Langford BC. To accommodate this elevation change, large granite boulders were stacked to create retaining walls. Local granite was used to ensure that the walls would retain the look and feel of the original mountainside. Other challenges included planting significant columnar trees for very narrow beds and grading for a plaza and water feature on a sloped site.
